Dear Sis Dolly

I was living with my mom, her boyfriend, my three sisters and their kids but moved into my own place last year. It was only me and one sister who were working – two sisters were doing nothing and said they could depend on my mom’s pension money.

Now my mom has asked me to return so I can contribute. I love my mom but I don’t want to give my money to her useless boyfriend and my lazy sisters – they were the reason I moved out. What should I do?

Sometimes you have to make sacrifices if you want to be independent. In your case, maybe it’s your siblings and your mom you need to sacrifice so that you can lead your own fulfilling life.

It’s selfish of your mom to ask you to come back home because she needs money for her household. She should be talking to her other daughters – the ones who still live with her. She needs to tell them that they need to contribute too.

They’re living in a dream world if they believe they’ll survive by using her pension money. Don’t they have dreams and aspirations for themselves and for their children?

Your mom, her boyfriend and your sisters are not your responsibility. It’s not fair of her to ask you to return – you have to live your life and follow your dreams.

Put your foot down and don’t allow yourself to be manipulated, used or abused.
