It's not the weight loss that’s hardest to do for many of us. It’s the weight loss maintenance that’s the real challenge.

When you’ve shed a few kilos and are feeling more confident and toned, you make promises to yourself to stay there at your ideal weight. But then life happens and, as if overnight, the weight is back – plus interest.

Jazz icon Judith Sephuma is an example of how the journey to wellness is approached one day at a time, through dedication and focus. 

“You must love yourself. We get involved in so many other things that we forget about ourselves. My advice to people is: make this new year all about you. Be selfish and love yourself. I promise you, if you love yourself, your days will be longer on this earth and you’ll inspire a lot of people,” she said in 2016, a year after she started reaching her body goals.

Her day starts with a skipping rope and she has a group of women with whom she works out, she said, so they can encourage each other.
