This is the year to shed a few kilos for those of us who have put on a bit of lockdown weight.

“I definitely do think that people have gained a lot more weight over this lockdown period,” says Johannesburg-based dietician Lila Bruk. She attributes this to a number of factors.

“People have experienced a lot more stress. It’s been a difficult period for many people in many ways and that has affected their ability to stick to a plan. Then there’s the financial aspect where people don’t have the money for a gym contract or to buy the things they used to. And also during that very early lockdown when everybody was stuck inside, that had an impact on people’s exercise routines and their eating habits.”
