Will I love again?

Question

I was in a relationship with a guy for seven months and then he ended things. Now I’m feeling used, betrayed and hopeless. I don’t love myself anymore and I wish I’d never met him. I didn’t think anyone could hurt me like this, but my ex has really broken me and I don’t think I’ll be able to love again.

Answer

Sometimes when love doesn’t work out it’s good to simply let go and move on. It’s understandable that you’re feeling sad because you lost someone you love and because it happened unexpectedly. But take it as a blessing and move on. Surely you wouldn’t want to be in a relationship with someone who doesn’t love you? Take all the good memories from the seven months you were together and treasure them.

They are part of what has led you to where you are now and whatever it was that went wrong should be seen as a lesson for the future. What I suggest you do is give yourself time to heal from the hurt. Do things that you enjoy – the things you used to do before you met him. Concentrate on yourself for a while before getting involved in another relationship.

If after a few weeks you feel nothing is helping you heal then you should consider seeking the assistance of a counsellor. They will teach you with coping skills and help you to move on. Don’t despair – you will find love again

According to Cosmopolitan after a break up it is important to learn how to productively talk about the break up, when you’re struggling to get over your ex. More than anything it is important to give yourself time to decompress and remember who you are.
