There are strict procedures that need to be adhered to in terms of the Labour Relations Act when you are retrenched.

HOW RETRENCHMENT WORKS

Employers must be able to precisely explain how many people will be laid off, why they’re being retrenched and when it will happen. This must be followed by consultations during which employees can make suggestions to avoid lay-offs.
