It may feel like just yesterday they first took the SA music scene by storm, but multi-award-winning trio Mi Casa have been around for a decade and are still going strong.

Reflecting on their time together, the trio recently shared an image on Instagram from their first ever photoshoot, encouraging fans to never give up on their dreams.

“Today we’ve been going through the archives and this picture is from our very first photo shoot ever,” the snap’s caption started. “We had met 3 months before this, we had 3 songs, we had no idea what we were doing but we knew what we wanted to become.

“There is a great gift in perseverance, in fighting for your dreams, in pushing through the BS and staying focused on the mission, of not competing with your peers but rather to observe and learn from them and compete with yourself. For art is not a competitive sport to us, it’s a gift given to us to enjoy and use to make the world a better place. This is us telling you to never give up, not now. Not ever! We know there is a lot going on right now. Stand firm and grounded upon love and be patient with yourself! We encourage all of you. Let us be the wave of love our generation needs right now.”

Their self-titled debut album went platinum within months of its release in 2011.

Before the release of their fourth album, Familia, in 2017 the trio shared how they had almost broken up, citing little issues swept under the carpet for the six years prior.

“This album isn’t an album that we made because we needed to put out another album. This album was made because we nearly broke up as a family, as Mi Casa. The album is a result of the affirmation that ‘we are family’,” guitarist and vocalist J’Something said at the time.

And the family bond keeps growing stronger.

“What a journey it’s been,” the group said in their recent post. “From not knowing one another from a bar of soap to becoming such a strong musical family, a collective, a brotherhood, to wanting to break up as a band to then pushing through and finding a whole new meaning for what we do and being able to reengineer our sound to make us feel proud. Damn overwhelming.”

Taking to Instagram, J’Something hinted a new album is on the way.

“I have never been this excited before about music as I am for this new album. I am blown away and mad emotional thinking that a few years ago we wanted to call it quits and now here we are in the best shape we have ever been. The reason I share such is because in our story lies a greater lesson ... fight and push through the pain for the things you really love! Don’t give up,” he wrote.
