AKA reveals he spent R5 Million on a new TV show


Local rapper AKA recently launched his very own app, AKATV. The app includes exclusive music content, performance showcases as well as behind-the-scenes footage from the award-winning rapper.

In a recent interview with Ms Cosmo on 5FM’s YouTube channel, AKA revealed that he spent R5 million on a new upcoming show.

“We have the SuperMega show on the channel which is my live performances and we’ve got another show that we launching, I can’t give you the name right now….We’ve spent about R5m on this show, It’s an actual TV production like what a Channel O would do or what a MTV Base would do but instead its on the AKATV platform,” the rapper said.

AKA revealed that he spent serious money in order for his fans get the best quality content that they deserve, speaking on his decision to launch the TV app he said it always been something he has wanted to do.

“It has always been something I wanted to do, it just happened that the quarantine happened and now it looks like I planned this whole thing, which I did but I did not plan it to work out the way that it did”.

AKA says that his target market are his die-hard fans, who value his work enough to pay for it. The app currently costs R50 a month to subscribe.

“My essential target are the people who are hardcore AKA fans, that is who I am trying to cater for, I’m not trying to cater for the causal fans. The only people that matter to me are the hardcore fans who buy albums, who buy tickets and who stream music on iTunes.”


On Instagram the rapper revealed that his AKATV app would have brand new episodes this week.
