American rapper, DaBaby, who shot to fame after releasing his chart-topping single Suge is facing possible assault charges after he assaulted a fan, TMZ reported.

The rapper’s performance was cancelled before he could perform, due to his actions.

Evidence of the incident can be seen in a video posted by a fan at the concert.

In the video, the victim can be seen pushing her phone, with the flashlight on, into the North Carolina rapper’s face. DaBaby – real name Jonathan Lyndale Kirk – reacted by slapping her before being escorted away by his crew.

When news broke that assault charges have been laid against him, the rapper issued an apology to the victim and his fans. Taking to his Instagram stories, he posted videos, where he explains that he was not aware that "it was a female on the other end."

He further goes on to plead with the woman to meet with him in order for him to be able to apologise in person.

Fans of the artist were divided, with many saying he isn’t who they thought he was.
