Dr Dre and Nicole Young's divorce is being decided by a court in LA

American rap legend Dr Dre does not have to pay $1.5 million (R24.8m) for his estranged wife’s expenses.

This after her team failed to convince a judge that he needed to keep paying for her expenses such as security.

The couple has been embroiled in a messy divorce, with Nicole asking for millions in spousal support and other expenses.

She had also asked the court to compel the rapper to pay her legal fees to the tune of $5million (R82m).

A judge presiding over the matter in LA dismissed her applications saying that she fired the security team that Dre had hired for her.

TMZ reported that her legal team told the court that Dre, real name Andre Young, was using the security team as a means to control her because the security guards answered to him so she wanted to hire different people.

The couple have been married since May 1996 and have two kids together. It is not clear whether or not the couple signed a prenup at the beginning of their marriage.

The judge said if she felt her life was in danger, she should file a restraining order. She claims to have been receiving death threats since filing for divorce.

Nicole had asked for $2million spousal maintenance, broken down, the money was for a number of things including $135,000 a month on clothes, $20,000 a month on phone and email, $10,000 a month on laundry, and $900,000 a month on entertainment.
