Celebrities and fans have wished actress and TV presenter Thembisa Mdoda-Nxumalo a speedy recovery after she revealed that she was fighting for her life in hospital.

Thembisa took to Twitter yesterday to say that her child was comforting her on the phone as she “fights for dear life on this hospital bed”.

She did not say how long she had been in hospital and also did not mention her condition.

Following messages of concern, her family sent out a statement to assure South Africans that the actress was doing well.

"The Mdoda family would like to thank all of you for all the calls and messages concerning our beloved daughter Thembisa Nxumalo (Nee Mdoda) following a tweet regarding her health.

"She is indeed hospitalised and receiving the best medical care at the Sandton MediClinic. She was diagnosed with long Covid-19 which was further aggravated by an allergy. We are fortunate the doctors diagnosed her in time and are treating her with the utmost care," her family said.

"Thembisa is in good spirits and well taken care of and will be released in the next few days. The family is grateful for your love and support during this time, it truly doesn’t go unnoticed. You will be hearing from Thembisa very soon."

Industry friends and colleagues wished her well.

South Africans also joined in, sending her positive words of encouragement.

The former Our Perfect Wedding presenter also said she is at her most vulnerable and does not have strength for anything else.
