Thursday morning was a sombre one as Somizi Mhlongo-Motaung and the rest of the Twala family laid to rest one of their own, the late Mam’ Mary Twala. Mary died aged 80 at the Netcare Park Lane Private Hospital in Johannesburg on Saturday, 4 July, at around 11am.

Mary’s funeral adhered to the Covid-19 funeral regulations that permitted a maximum of 50 guests to attend a funeral while keeping the funeral one hour long, as stipulated by the government. And to make it up to those who would have loved to accompany Somizi and his family to laying her to rest, her funeral was streamed live on various social media platforms.
