He really wasn't expecting it. It was something he had hoped for, but as a distant dream that might or might not come true.

But he can't help but be excited about his first TV role.

Mr. Smeg, real name Michael Mncedi Bucwa, will be making his first cameo appearance on etv’s telenovela, Durban Gen. He gained popularity on social media after posting pictures of himself carrying his home appliances everywhere.

He says he will be playing himself because he doesn’t have any acting background. He will be a facilitator for a men’s conference in the storyline.

“I will be Mr. Smeg.” Will the famous kettle also make an appearance? “You will have to watch and see.”

He says viewers will get to see his appearances around June. “It will be for two days, the first day it will be about something regarding health, and then I change into a different outfit the following day, so it is just two scenes.”

Speaking to Drum about how he landed himself this opportunity to appear on his favorite show, he says he received an email.

“No, I did not audition for it, I received an email instead. I was shocked that they wanted me to make an appearance on the show, like I always wanted to appear on TV but just short lines because I am not an actor, I did not go to acting school. So, I don’t think I can get main roles for acting but I can do cameo appearances.”

He thinks he was chosen because of his social media presence. “I do have a lot of influence on Twitter, and I think maybe it is the way I conduct myself on the platform as well, I do not have scandals, like there is so many factors.”

He's not thinking about shifting to acting full time, yet.

“I think it would be best if I go to school for that and learn. And also, I think that I have to study the media as well; there’s a lot of things that I need to get training for, before I can get major roles.”

“I am venturing into music and busy with a single as we speak and will probably release an album later during the year. I am doing Afro house and Amapiano. My song is going to be a hit, I am working with big artists, but I can’t reveal their names for now.”
