He rose to fame when he walked away with the Idols prizes. It's been a little over five years since then and he's made his mark in the industry. From soulful RnB to uplifting gospel songs, Karabo Mogane can do it all.

Karabo (29) started the year on a high note. He recently got engaged and has an E.P in the works.

“I am currently busy with my E.P. There are a couple of artists I want to work with but can't confirm right now. I recently did a song with Vhudi but I am busy on my own E.P and I am excited to drop the first song soon on it. This year is a big year for me with getting engaged and dropping an E.P,” he tells DRUM.

“I am experimenting with sounds, I'm incorporating a little bit of the west African sound with the South African sound as well as international sound. I also want to do features that people do not expect or see coming. This E.P is exciting. It's still smooth but it will be different from everything, I can't wait for people to hear the music.”

Karabo got his break with Idols season 11 in 2015. He has managed to stay relevant because of God-given anointing and his relationship with God, he says.

“I believe that there is something special about me that I offer and many artists don’t. Another thing is that there is an anointing upon me, my music is accompanied by the Holy Spirit. Aside from the fact I am highly talented, the gift that I have is given to me by God and in order to for me to keep it, I need to maintain my relationship with God.”

As we go into the Easter weekend, Karabo says that he is booked with gigs but he wants to make time to go to church.

“I have gigs but I would like to make sometime to go to church as its an important weekend, hopefully I will have time to go to church.”

Karabo recently proposed to his girlfriend of four years, Sinesipho Mbandazayo and he has already paid lobola for her.

“I honestly knew she was the one from the get go, we met in 2016 and she was working for a TV publication and the person meant to interview me double booked themselves and fortunately she was asked to and when she walked in I was like wow, she is beautiful. It was a beautiful interview.

"I made my move later that year and she told me she had moved to Cape Town, I told her I would come to Cape Town for business but she was the business I was going there for. I spent the weekend with her and I introduced her to my friends as my future wife and she was shook. We started dating in 2017. I feel like I knew from the very beginning she was the one.

“I have learnt the importance of communication through my relationship with her, make your partner your best friend. I confide in her so much and she is my best friend and I look forward to seeing her everyday. She has made life so much easier. We finalised lobola and this past weekend I proposed in front of her family and my family.

“She is an incredible woman, she’s beyond beautiful. She’s very firm and we compliment each other well. She has my best interests at heart and I am there for her in all ways. She is very loving and she is a giver, and has taught me so much."

Karabo says he's looking forward to his wedding day and can't wait to see his wife walk down the aisle towards him.
