So what are South Africans listening to? As 2020 draws to a close, streaming services provider Spotify has released their list of the most streamed songs, artists, and albums of 2020 – globally and in South Africa.
Continuing his reign, King of Amapiano and Emcimbini hitmaker, Kabza De Small has proven to be the king of the charts as he is once again the most-streamed local artist of 2020.
In 2019 Kabza was Spotify's most-streamed South African artist and most-streamed South African male artist.
Kabza De Small currently has over 300 thousand monthly listeners on Spotify.
DJ Maphorisa, Nasty C, Afrikaans Group Spoegwolf and Joyous Celebration follow as the most streamed local artists.
Kabza's album, I Am The King of AmaPiano: Sweet & Dust, released in June is the most streamed local album. The star DJ also claimed the second and third spots with Scorpion Kings Live and The Return Of The Scorpion Kings.
Nasty C's Zulu Man With Some Power and Samthing Soweto's Isphithiphithi followed with the fourth and fifth most streamed albums respectively.
Elaine, Spotify’s first RADAR Africa artist for 2020, is the most-streamed local female artist of 2020 in South Africa.
She is followed by Ami Faku and Afrikaans singer Demi Lee Moor. Amapiano vocalist Sha Sha and Juanita Du Plessis complete the top five.
Having signed with International record-label Columbia Records in August, Elaine also has two songs in the most-streamed local songs of 2020.
With over 3 million streams, "You're the One" is the most-streamed local song of 2020. This is followed by "eMcimbini" by Aymos, DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small, Mas Music, Samthing Soweto and Myztro in second place. Master KG's Jerusalema, Tender Love by DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small and Sha Sha and Elaine's Risky complete the list.
