He was not poor; his family has a warm home in Kwa Sokhulu, Richards Bay, and his rented home in Umlazi township KwaZulu-Natal.

He has 20 siblings and two moms from his dad’s polygamous marriage. But in 2019, singer Philadlozi Mfekayi (22) left his comfortable home and landed in the streets of Johannesburg, homeless and pursuing a career in music.

He has been singing for as long as he can remember. In KZN, he used to busk at shopping complexes, parking lots, and taxi ranks.
