They keep making South Africans proud as they make their mark internationally.
Actresses Thuso Mbedu and Nomzamo Mbatha have made it into Essence Magazine’s global top 20 Black Hollywood Stars To Watch Out for 2021 list.
The stars were listed amongst Grownish actress Ryan Destiny, Blackish star Marcus Scribner and musical duo ChloexHalle to name a few.
Nomzamo took the 9th spot and shared her gratitude for the nod on Twitter.
"In good company. Thank you for shining a light our way @Essence. Honoured," she wrote.
The publication hailed Nomzamo as a 'sought after star' who has a high level of care and commitment.
She will also be starring in Coming 2 America alongside international stars such as Wesley Snipes, Arsenio Hall and Eddie Murphy.
When news of her casting broke, Nomzamo shared that it was a surreal moment. "From KWAMASHU to the WORLD," she excitingly shared. "I’m just honored to be a part of this incredible and huge classic of a film."
The comedy film is set to release on 5 March 2021 in the United States.
Thuso was lauded by the publication as "one of the most compelling new faces on television and a force to be reckoned with".
In an Instagram post, she shared that she was at a loss for words after her casting as Cora in The Underground Railroad. "It's such a blessing and honour to tell this story."
When she stars in the film, Thuso will make history as first South African actress to lead an American television series.
No firm release date has been set for the historical fiction drama that is produced by acclaimed filmmaker Barry Jenkins.
Thuso Mbedu also recently made it to international Porter Magazine's list of 'The names you need to know in 2021'.
