Rapper T.I. caused social media outrage last year when he revealed that he takes his daughter to a gynaecologist annually, to check if she’s still a virgin. His daughter, Deyjah Harris, was 18 at the time when her rapper dad made the announcement.
The news first broke when he was on a podcast show called Ladies Like Us. “We have yearly trips to the gynaecologist to check her hymen,” T.I. said. The hosts of the podcast then asked him if he goes with her and the father of six confidently said, “Yes, I go with”.
The rapper, whose real name is Clifford Harris, then tried to take control of the situation by going on Red Table Talk to explain himself. On the show, which is hosted and executive produced by Jada Pinkett Smith, T.I. mentioned how these tests were not conducted currently but were done when his daughter was 15/16-years-old.
His daughter hasn’t spoken about it until recently, when she opened up to her cousins about how she felt.
“Things are completely uncomfortable for me right now. We’re all together in this house so I have to see my dad and be around him. We’re in a foreign country so it’s not like I can just leave and get away”, the 19-year-old said.
The video is from the rapper’s reality TV show, T.I. & Tiny: Friends & Family Hustle. Deyjah continued to speak about how shocked and hurt she was throughout the entire thing as people kept on tagging her in posts about it.
“I’m trying to push it in the back of my mind so that I really don’t think about it. I know it’s not healthy, but I’ve been doing that ever since I was a child, especially with issues surrounding him”, she continued to say.
The 19-year-old shocked her cousins by mentioning that it had been happening since she was 14 and she didn’t have the option to say no. “I’ve tried mentioning it to him, but he always just plays victim”, she said when told to address it with him.
The clip comes just over five months from when the rapper first spoke about the virginity testing and he has not yet commented on the issue.
