Cape Town - Actress Thembsie Matu who plays the humorous character Petronella on Mzansi Magic's The Queen is mourning the death of her husband, Peter Sebotsa, who died last week.

According to SowetanLive, Peter drowned at their home in east of Joburg and died on Thursday. Thembisie's son Nathi told the Sowetan that this is a trying time for the family and their mother is doing her best to remain strong.

"Last Thursday, I tragically lost my dear husband, my rock, whom I've been with for 36 years. It's been a very difficult time for us, and we ask that you keep us in your prayers as we plan for the funeral, and the days after that. We're a family that trusts God, and we believe that he will carry us through," she posted on her Instagram page.

Even though Thembsie is known for her larger than life character on The Queen, she is quite a reserved person. In a previous interview with Move! it was evident that she was nothing like her onscreen character. She was extremely private about her family but did speak about her love for her husband.

She described her husband as a very caring and loving man who was God-sent.

"I was still doing stage productions when I had my children and my husband would stay with the kids while I was touring. He had no problem with it and wanted me to follow my dreams," Thembsie told Move!.

"Years later, when my kids were a little grown up, they would always ask their father for food when they were hungry and not me because they were so used to him taking care of them," she explained.

SowetanLive reports that he will be buried in Thokoza on 29 June.
