The 23-time tennis Grand slam champion Serena Williams is serving all sorts of heat and complete power as the first ever cover star to wear cornrows on the magazine Teen Vogue, according to BET.

This year we have watched the first time mom break down many stereotypes about black women not just through media representation but also within the sports industry.

From the controversial cat suit she wore to the French Opens earlier this year to speaking out against sexism at the US Open final – Serena is without a doubt leaving her mark.

Taking to her Instagram to share her latest collaboration with Teen Vogue, the 37-year-old tennis star who was styled by Jason Bolden can be seen, rocking a pink almost orange ruffled poncho with puffed up shoulders.

The tennis star also sat down for an interview on Teen Vogue with the magazine’s edition-in-chief Lindsay Peoples Wagner alongside, 11-year-old American activist Naomi Wadler to speak on power, activism and black girl magic.

“It's definitely important to have that conversation, and then encourage people to support each other. Especially as women of color. We really have to support each other,” explained Serena speaking on the importance of having women of color show up for each other.

“I always like to say that women really should support each other, because the success of one woman should be the inspiration to the next. If we look at it that way, there would be so much more that we can accomplish.”
