There’s time for a whole lot of fun and relaxation this time of year, but it requires some extra cash as those trips to the beach, outings with old buddies and summer fun don’t come cheap.

Lucky for you, we have a few ideas of what you can do to make money this festive season:

1.       Sell what you don’t need

If you look around your home, chances are you’ll find a lot of things you no longer need and have probably forgotten about. Things like books, birthday gifts you didn’t like, unused electronics and clothes that have barely been worn. All these things can be sold for some extra cash. Websites such as OLX and Gumtree are excellent for selling and purchasing things online. You know what they say: one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.

2.       Freelance

Businesses and individuals are always looking for professional services for small or one-time projects. There’s freelance work available for many skills, from writers, designers, photographers and social media managers to dancers and chefs.  And it’s flexible so you can set your own working hours and work for multiple clients.

3.       Offer gift wrapping-services

Wrapping gifts can be a mission, especially for people who are very busy. This is where you can step in and do it for them – for a fee of course. You may choose to charge your services according to the size of the package or the time you’ve spent wrapping the gift.

4.       Take paid online surveys

Survey companies are always looking for the opinions of everyday people – be it the young, the old, the poor, the rich, the orange or the green. It doesn’t matter who you are, they need your opinion. According to surveychris.com, Paid Viewpoint, iPoll, Global TestMarket, SurveySavvy and MindSwarms are the top five survey companies that South Africans can use to get money. Imagine getting paid just for giving your opinion!

5.       Be a human test subject

This could be quite risky or it could be a lot of fun. A human test subject is someone who research companies use to test their products on. This could be medical drugs, cosmetic products or even new flavours of food and drink.  There are companies that pay people to be the subjects of their product trial. I would definitely enjoy tasting different flavoured wines all day!
