It’s 3.30 in the morning. Xolile Malangeni is annoyed that someone is calling out at his gate and waking him at such ungodly hours in winter.

With his eyes half-closed, he gets out of his warm bed to find out what the commotion is about and the person on the other side of the gate says something that is his worst nightmare. But what he was going to learn later in the day was worse, it was the unthinkable. His darling baby girl Esinako died.

She was just 16. She was one of 21 teenagers who died at Enyobeni tavern over the weekend.
