A Durban woman has become an internet sensation overnight after a video of her singing Big Zulu’s Imali Eningi in Dr Rebecca Malope’s voice went viral.

Mbali Mnguni (20) was fooling around with her friends last week when the video was taken.

“It was a joke and I like to imitate people. I have a passion for music and I adore Mam Rebecca. We were just chilling and having fun and my friend took the video. Her mom posted it on social media and I am overwhelmed by the response from people,” she says.

Mbali is currently upgrading her matric results and couldn't believe the feedback on social media.

“People I have loved and looked up to for years have reached out to me on social media, on DM or retweeted the video. This is a big deal for me. I would love to pursue a career in music,” she says.

Musicians Cici and Big Zulu also complimented her singing.

But most importantly, Rebecca saw the video and said it made her day.

“I knew that Mam Rebecca would possibly see the video and I was worried about how she would take it. I did not want to offend her. I was so relieved that she responded positively,” she adds.
