Grannies in wheelchairs, on crutches making their way to EFF rally

2016-07-31 12:09

Polokwane  Grannies from Seshego joined the youth in support of their beloved Julius Malema and the EFF on Sunday, the last day of campaigning ahead of local government elections on August 3.

Young and old supporters of the political party were attempting to fill up the 45 000-capacity Peter Mokaba Stadium for the Economic Freedom Fighters' final Tshela Thupa rally in Polokwane.

Grannies from the EFF leader's hometown, some in wheelchairs, others on crutches, made their way to the stadium, saying they want the EFF to replace the ANC government.

"We want to Malema to take over, change everything in Limpopo. Everything must be named after him," a supporter said.

The grannies said life has been tough under the current administration.

"We have been struggling for a long time. We are still being oppressed, our children can't even find jobs," another said.

One of those attending the rally told News24 that Malema grew up under their watch and that alone was reason enough to support him and his endeavours.

"His political party is very close to our hearts, we will continue to support him. We want to see him take over from this government."
