Johannesburg - 702 host Redi Tlhabi and Democratic Alliance members and supporters traded proverbial blows on Twitter this weekend over the party’s electioneering calls and SMSes.

The party has recently come under fire from some for the campaign calls and SMSes in the lead up to the August 3 local government elections.

Some have labelled the campaign intrusive, and questioned how the Democratic Alliance gained access to their personal cell phone numbers.

Tlhabi added her voice to the chorus on Sunday night.

When chastised by some users that she and her broadcaster were becoming "openly ANC supporters" by one user, Tlhabi replied.

The talk presenter also traded salvos with the DA MP and shadow minister of education Gavin Davis after he tried to draw attention to poverty ridden public schools.

A hashtag emerged from the issue, where some supporters described the current problems in South Africa, while other users saw it as "entitlement and arrogance" from the party's supporters.
