Mboweni appointed to Discovery board

Cape Town - Discovery Limited [JSE:DSY] on Tuesday announced the appointment of former Reserve Bank governor Tito Mboweni as a non-executive director to its board of directors, effective from January 1 2014.

In a statement, Discovery said Mboweni has gained considerable expertise and experience in economic and political analysis, macro-level economy strategy, finance, labour relations and public policy in an academic, political and business career spanning three decades.

He served as the minister of labour in South Africa’s first post-apartheid government from 1994 to 1998, and as the governor of the South African Reserve Bank from 1999 to 2009.

Commenting on his appointment, Mboweni said he was "extremely delighted and honoured", and hoped to use his knowledge and experience to contribute to the company's growth.

Monty Hilkowitz, chairperson of the Discovery board,and group CEO of Discovery Adrian Gore also welcomed Mboweni's appointment.

In addition to his new appointment, Mboweni also serves as the chairperson of the boards of Nampak, AngloGold Ashanti, Accelerate Property Fund and SacOil. He also serves as the international adviser to Goldman Sachs International.

He holds academic degrees at various universities in South Africa and abroad.
