Cape Town – The Department of Public Enterprises on Friday announced the appointment of Brian Molefe as permanent CEO of Eskom.
Cabinet this week approved the appointments Brian Molefe as Chief Executive and Dr Ben Ngubane as Chairperson of Eskom’s Board.
"Dr Ngubane has steadied the company since March 30 2015 as Acting Chairperson. Together with Mr Molefe, who was seconded from Transnet in mid-April 2015, they have been successful in bringing stability to the company whilst dealing with a constrained grid," Minister of Public Enterprises, Lynne Brown, said in a statement.
Molefe was seconded to Eskom in April 2015, following four years as group CEO of Transnet.
Molefe was appointed after former CEO Tshediso Matona was suspended in March.
Matona was suspended when Eskom announced it would start an independent inquiry into the state utility, which has been battling with maintenance of its generators and has been implementing load shedding.
"I welcome these appointments and they are part of my ongoing interventions to stabilise Eskom," Brown said.
With the exception of of one power cut, Eskom has managed to stave off load shedding for more than six weeks.
