Mkondeni - After almost six years, five mobile transformers were delivered to its Mkondeni unit in KwaZulu Natal in March, Eskom said on Tuesday.

The plan to purchase the five 132/88-22/11KV mobile transformers started in 2011 and following a procurement process, Siemens was awarded the contract to manufacture the units. All five mobile transformers were delivered by March 2017.

According to Eskom, mobile transformers are of great value as they provide the capabilities to quickly restore electricity following an outage caused by a storm or any other disaster.
