Government will make announcements on dealing with Eskom's near R490 billion debt in due course, Finance Minister Tito Mboweni has said.

The minister on Wednesday was speaking during a briefing following the tabling of the medium-term budget policy statement.

The power utility received R23 billion this year, as was allocated in Budget 2020. Treasury noted that Eskom has been making progress in implementing its turnaround plan. However, its growing debt burden is still a sore point.
