National Treasury and the Department of Health remained tight-lipped on Thursday following news that South Africa missed its deadline for the payment of a deposit to secure a Covid-19 vaccine through the Covax coalition.

South Africa entered the second wave of its Covid-19 in the early days of December with new cases breaching the 10 000 mark on Wednesday. It emerged in reports on Thursday that South Africa missed the Tuesday deadline for a guarantee of payment to secure the Covid-19 vaccine through the Covax coalition.

However, National Treasury would not comment on the reports or answer questions posed to them by Fin24.
