Consumers hit brakes on new car sales

Cape Town – The new vehicle market has continued its downward trend in May, highlighting the pressure on consumer budgets.

According to data from the WesBank and National Association of Automobile Manufacturers of SA (Naamsa), a total of only 42 907 new vehicles were sold, indicating a 10.3% fall.

“Within this, respective drops of 12.9% and 5.3% were seen for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.”
