Health Minister Joe Phaahla says government does not intend to implement the National Health Insurance (NHI) at "full blast". Instead, it will be introduced incrementally, starting with the primary healthcare level, where it had been piloted in the past.
"The introductory level of the NHI will focus on the primary health sites, the preventative and early detection of diseases, early treatment and GPs - but exclude your secondary and tertiary services," he explained at an event presented by Momentum Health Solutions.
