Cape Town - If you're a budding entrepreneur who needs a helping hand and a cash boost to start your business, you may qualify for some much-needed help.

The South African Breweries youth entrepreneurship development programme SAB KickStart is offering business training and funding to young entrepreneurs.

The programme is an initiative which aims to promote entrepreneurship among previously disadvantaged youth.

It is run as a competition, bringing home the reality to many first-time entrepreneurs that they operate their businesses in a world of risk and reward.

In its first phase, the programme will select and train 60 applicants over a course of 12 months.

This is followed by a second phase of training, in which 18 applicants will be chosen to acquire further business knowledge and skills over another 12 months.

These 18 applicants will be mentored by a group of business people and entrepreneurs, and will also be awarded capital to start their own businesses. By the end of the 24-month course, the final three applicants will be selected.

The top young entrepreneur will receive R500 000, the runner-up R250 000 and the third prize winner R150 000.

All applicants who make it into the programme will be equipped with the most effective tools to build and run sustainable businesses.

The programme also offers the winner a chance to network and be exposed to various forums, and gives young black entrepreneurs an opportunity to take their businesses to the next level.

If you want to take part, find out if you qualify and send in your application.
