Wall Street opens higher after US-China trade detente

Wall Street stocks surged in opening trading on Monday after the US and China agreed to a ceasefire on new tariffs over the weekend.

About five minutes into trading, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stood at 25 956.88, up 1.6%, as the United States joined a global equities rally following Saturday's announcement at the Group of 20 summit in Argentina.

The broad-based S&P 500 advanced 1.4% to 2 799.03, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index jumped 1.8% to 7 461.59.
