Cape Town - Capitec had to do damage control after a problem with banking services left clients fuming over the weekend.
The bank, which revealed in September that 648 000 new clients joined Capitec in the six months to end-August, suffered downtime due to connection issues.
A Fin24 user said he tried withdrawing cash on Saturday at several different places, but was unsuccessful.
"I went to withdraw at Capitec in Meadowlands and it was offline. I went inside to Pick n Pay and they were still offline. Westgate Kagiso was also offline.... Please sort this problem cause we love this bank," he wrote.
Several other irate clients took to Twitter to vent their anger.
The bank tweeted an apology on Saturday.
"Apologies for any inconvenience caused due to intermittent connectivity issues. Please note ATMs & card swipes are functioning as normal."
On Monday, Capitec was still apologising to clients on Twitter.
Fin24 contacted Capitec to find out what caused the problem and is still awaiting a response.
Capitec is generally the cheapest bank for the needs of most people, despite strong competition from other banks, according to Solidarity's 2016 Bank Charges Report.
