Las Vegas - Chinese electronics maker Hisense has shown off its latest 100-inch 4K laser projection TV system at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas this week.
Currently, televisions in the 100 inch range are luxury products that can cost upwards of $60 000 for some brands.
But Hisense this week said its use of a projection system can provide a similar experience to that of 100-inch televisions but at lower cost - $12 999.99 (still around a hefty R176 000).
At CES, the company has put on display two of its laser projection televisions, which use a short-throw projector to project 4K HDR pictures on an included screen via HDMI or USB.
The short-throw projector also features a UHD upscaler. One of its televisions on show at CES this week will be available on the US market later this year. Fin24 understands that there could be plans by Hisense to show off the device in South Africa as well.
Hisense this week said in a press briefing that it is South Africa and China’s biggest television seller but that it plans to boost its presence in the US amid a string of new TV launches there.
The company also has a production facility in Atlantis, Cape Town.
