Johannesburg - Electronics giant Samsung has stopped all pre-orders of the Galaxy Note 7 in South Africa, with the availability date postponed indefinitely, amid exploding battery reports.
On Wednesday, the company said that pre-orders were continuing in the country, despite international delays over investigations into battery faults.
But Samsung, later on Thursday, said that all pre-orders have been stopped.
By 16:40 on Thursday mobile service provider MTN's Note 7 pre-order page stated that the deal had expired, with Vodacom pulling the pre-order page completely.
Samsung also told Fin24 that the availability date, which had initially been set as September 23, has also been postponed until further notice.
Last week the South Korean company halted global sales of the device amid 35 cases of product faults.
The company also said that they would replace all Galaxy Note 7 devices for any customers who already have the handsets.
“We are aware of the issues raised within the media and in this regard Samsung Electronics Head Quarters is conducting a thorough inspection with regards to the concerns,” Craige Fleisher, Samsung Electronics South Africa's director for integrated mobility, previously told Fin24.
Initial reports suggested that charging the device without the original charger led to the damages.
The highly anticipated 'phablet' smartphone was launched in South Africa in early-August, boasting a major upgrade and newer features when compared to its predecessor.
