Internet ride-sharing app Uber allows its passengers to rate drivers on a five-star system, but few passengers realise that they are also being rated by drivers.
Uber - which started as an idea by its founder Travis Kalanick in 2008 - has extended to over 400 global cities and notched up over 1bn rides.
Meanwhile, Uber launched in South Africa in 2013 and, to date, it has had over 500 000 rides. Uber in South Africa also has over 4 000 partner drivers.
The app allows passengers, or ‘riders’, to rate their drivers - a key part to ensuring sustainable quality service on the app.
However, Uber also allows drivers to rate passengers, and these passengers in turn can check their ratings.
“After each trip, riders and drivers are given the opportunity to rate one another based on their trip experience,” says Uber on its website.
“The rating system works to make sure that the most respectful riders and drivers are using Uber. Ratings are always reported as averages, and neither riders nor drivers will see the individual rating left for a particular trip,” says the company.
Check your rating
To check your rating then on the Uber app, you can follow these steps.
- Open your app
- Press on the ‘Help’ menu option
- Press on the ‘Account and Payment’ menu option
- Then choose ‘Account Settings and Ratings’
- After that, select ‘I’d like to know my rating’
- A screen will then pop up that will give the option to check your rating by pressing the ‘Submit’ button.
