Johannesburg - The launch of Microsoft’s next operating system Windows 10 will happen on July 29, but will users upgrade in large numbers?

That is a question that Microsoft will see the answer too soon as it unveils its next version operating system.

Features that Windows 10 is expected to have range from faster boot times, longer battery life, more data security, a new browser called Microsoft Edge and its digital assistant Cortana, which is a competitor to Apple’s Siri technology.

Windows 10 also sees the return of the Start button menu, a feature that was removed in version 8.

The Windows 10 upgrade will be available to 190 countries and will only work on certain PC and tablet devices come July 29.

Fin24 users have given their views on whether they will upgrade or not.

Fin24 user Hein Roos said he would consider making the switch.

“To me the best Windows OS (operating system) still is XP. If one takes into account how long XP was running , then it speaks for itself. I will be upgrading to Windows 10 when it releases,” Roos wrote to Fin24.

Other Fin24 readers like Errol Guard are not keen on Windows 10.

“Will I be upgrading to Windows 10? No,” Errol wrote to Fin24.

But Fin24 user Carel G Nel is planning to make the switch.

“Yes I will upgrade to Windows 10: I prefer to keep moving with the future and refuse to dwell in the past,” Nel wrote to Fin24.

Fin24 user Brij Boodhram said he’ll make the upgrade if it’s similar to previous Microsoft Windows operating systems.

“If this is anything like XP pro, then I can’t wait,” Boodhram wrote to Fin24.

Finally, Fin24 user Jabulani Stephens is upbeat about migrating to Windows 10.

“Windows 7 was the best, Windows 8 was confusing 8.1 was amazing. I am actually looking forward to Windows 10,” Stephens wrote to Fin24.
