The Covid-19 pandemic has wreaked havoc on South Africa's already stretched public finances. The economy saw a record contraction in 2020 and analysts estimate it could take up to nine years for employment levels to recover.
Finance Minister Tito Mboweni will have his work cut out for him when he delivers the 2021 budget speech on Wednesday, 24 February at 14:00.
He's walking a tightrope between reviving the economy, while trimming the budget.
Fin24 will host a live panel discussion with leading economists and analysts, who will review Mboweni's plans to douse the "Burning Fiscus".
Hosted by Fin24 Editor Ron Derby, the panel will consist of:
- Zama Ndlovu, Fin24 columnist
- Nolwandle Mthombeni, analyst at Intellidex
- Sifiso Skenjana, chief economist at IQbusiness
Join us for the live event on Wednesday at 18:00 on News24 for the budget post-mortem.
