AfriForum eyeing nuclear project as load shedding solution - but can it work?

Amid a national energy crisis, lobby group AfriForum is eyeing an electricity project which involves nuclear as a long-term solution for the country's power challenges.

The civil rights organisation wants to revive pebble-bed modular reactors in South Africa with the help of venture capitalist André Pienaar, whose investee company X-energy, based in the US, is working on the technology.

But is it a viable option to relieve the country's escalating energy woes?
