Wealthy nations that industrialised on the back of fossil fuels for two centuries are the ones who have to make ambitious sacrifices for the climate crisis, says Forestry, Fisheries and Environment Minister Barbara Creecy.
"Those who have done the most damage are those that must do the most rapid repair," Creecy told News24, from the South African delegation's offices at COP27. The UN climate talks are being held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. It's been dubbed both the "African COP" and the "Implementation COP", with developing countries putting pressure on wealthy nations to take responsibility for the climate crisis.
A big part of implementing measures to achieve the Paris Agreement climate commitments of limiting global temperature rise beyond 1.5 degrees Celsius is access to finance.
