RCL Foods is roping in former Country Bird Holdings (CBH) CEO Marthinus Stander
to head up its chicken business after what has shaped up to be a busy year for
South Africa's poultry industry.
Stander, whose last day at CBH was at the end of November, was at the helm of the company during its attempt to take over the country's largest egg producer, Quantum Foods, which produces the Nulaid brand eggs and poultry, a few months ago.
CBH's unwanted advances caused a flurry of excitement that saw Quantum’s directors and fellow poultry producers scurry to buy up shares in the company to block the bid, sending the share price soaring and the surprise entrance of Silverlands, a Luxembourg-based agricultural investment company that bought up a 32% majority stake in the egg producer.
