South Africa's high-value crop volumes are expected to increase 50% by 2030, which could further exacerbate bottlenecks at local ports, according to an agricultural expert.
In fact, logistical challenges at ports posed a greater risk to agricultural exports than the war between Russia and Ukraine, said Professor Ferdi Meyer of the Bureau for Food and Agricultural Policy (BFAP) during a panel at the annual agricultural trade show, Nampo.
The show is currently underway this week outside of the town of Bothaville in the Free State.
