After two years of cancellations, around 5 000 festival-goers attended the Ballito Rage on the KwaZulu-Natal North Coast this week – down from the 2018/19 high of 7 000, but still a very welcome boost for the local economy.
In 2020, the festival was closed during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Last year, the festival started but was then cancelled after 36 people tested positive for the virus.
"We have bounced back to around 75% of the attendance and sponsorship,"says Greg Walsh, founder of Rage and owner of G&G Productions, the production company which organises Rage. Walsh’s involvement with the Plett Rage festival ended in January this year, but he continues to be involved in Ballito.
