We’ve long laboured over the many billions or rands that our state-owned enterprises either need to be bailed out or restructured for an eternity it seems, forgetting that within these organisations there are thousands of South Africans like you and I that wake every morning hoping for a better day.

They’ve been stuck in a long, very long winter as they’ve wondered just when the final nail would be struck.

This week’s developments at the SABC are a reminder if ever you needed it of the cost of years of maladministration, corruption and governance failures. Standing out as one of the beacons of the Johannesburg skyline, staff at the almost 84-year old organisation have now reached a point no return in the breakdown of relations with the public broadcaster's board and its shareholder representative in the Department of Communications led by Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams.
