MultiChoice CEO Calvo Mawela says Canal+, which has been rapidly increasing its stake in the pay-TV operator, is a "strategic" investor - although it could never assume full ownership of the company under current local regulations.

Speaking to News24 Business, Mawela said the interest shown by the French entertainment giant in MultiChoice was a great vote of confidence.

From around 6% in 2020, Canal+ built its stake to 15% by September last year. It reached 18.4% in mid-June this year, and increased this to 20.1% by July, and the company increased its stake to 26.26% this month, News24 reported.
