Until recently, eating a vegan meat alternative could mean biting into an uninspired soya-based burger patty that tasted nothing like meat, but all of that has changed as companies get on the plant-based diet wave.

They are refining their products to match the fussy palates of the most die-hard carnivores, and cashing in.

In the past few years, the meat alternative industry has exploded as companies find creative ways to feed growing consumer demand for meat free products.
