As the battle over spectrum auction heads to court, the Wholesale Open Access Network (WOAN) – a model created by government to help boost competition in the sector – is set to be a bone of contention.

Telkom has brought a court case against the communications regulator over the spectrum auction.

Last week, it dropped its urgent application to interdict the auction, provided that the other parties involved in the process - including the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) - agreed to an expedited hearing of the merit of Telkom's case.
