Over the past 43 years, Dis-Chem has grown from a family-owned business to a listed behemoth. But as it continues to expand into the baby and primary health markets, CFO Rui Morais says the group will remain a pharmacy retailer at heart.

The company, which was established by pharmacist couple Ivan and Lynette Saltzman in 1978, listed on the JSE in 2016. And in the years since its founding, it has become a notable pharmacy retail brand, with a footprint of 200 stores. It also boasts a market capitalisation of more than R28 billion.

The group now has its sights set on the baby market industry, following its acquisition of Baby City for R430 million, where plans to introduce mom and baby clinics at its Baby City stores.
