The SA Revenue Service (SARS) earlier this year accepted a donation of three hammer mills used to destroy illicit cigarettes and other tobacco products from members of the SA tobacco industry, according to leaked internal documents. 

"If it is true that SARS accepted such gifts, I think SARS should consider returning them immediately," former top SARS executive Johann van Loggerenberg told Fin24.

"I believe that SARS should explain to the public why it would contemplate accepting gifts from one side of such a heavily contested and state capture-tainted industry that happens to be so rife with tax scams."
